Selecting locks for your home is an important task that should not be taken lightly and the he main thing you need to think about is how secure they are. That is exactly where ANSI which is the American National Standards Institute comes in to the picture. 

ANSI creates standards for many products including locks to ensure their quality and also their security level.

There are 3 ANSI door lock grades, from 1 as the higher Grade to 3 which is the lowest.

Grade 1

ANSI Grade 1 is the highest level of security for door locks typically used for commercial purposes. 

They can be installed in residential properties as well if better security is required but they are much more expensive than the other grades and only if home security is your a real concern then investing in a Grade 1 locks can be considered. 

Grade 1 locks must pass strict tests that ensure they can withstand forced entry and heavy use.

Grade 2 and Grade 3

For most residential properties, ANSI Grade 2 and Grade 3 locks are suitable. While grade 2 locks provide good balance between security and cost they are more durable than Grade 3 and are more suitable for residential entrance doors. Grade 3 locks offer basic security and are commonly used on residential interior doors.
